Proper Application

Thank you for considering Yard Gard. We guarantee our product to work effectively for a minimum of sixty (60) days.

In speaking with many customers, we have found that adhering to the following “helpful hints” enhances our customer’s experience and satisfaction with Yard Gard.

To get the most effective use of Yard Gard and help us stand firmly behind our guarantee please note the following instructions and adhere to all product use requirements

Remove any thatch (dead grass) greater than two inches in thickness from the area you wish to treat.

  • Apply using a hand or push spreader at the appropriate application setting.
    • (See product package instructions.)

Measure your lawn for the area you wish to treat; measure it even if you think you know the correct square footage. This is a very common oversight of our valued customers.

  • Spread Yard Gard product at the rate of no more than 1,000 square feet for a 4lb canister, 2000 sq.ft. for an 8lb canister and 5,000 sq. ft. for a 20lb bag. (This is for the initial application only.)
  • After application, water the treated area for approximately 30 minutes, twice weekly for the first two weeks in all application areas/zones.
    • (See “Blog” on this site titled, “Can I make Yard Gard Work Faster?”)
  • It may take up to 3-4 weeks for significant results to occur. Remember each animal must be “operant conditioned”; that is to be stimulated to leave the treated area.

Maintenance and Repeat Application Instructions:

For subsequent or maintenance applications,

  • the spread rate settings may be halved.
  • if reapplying the product within 12 weeks of the initial application.

It is best to reapply Yard Gard as soon as

  • you notice a significant increase in animal activity or
  • in about 12 weeks, whichever comes first.

This will provide for the most cost effective use of the product and prevents re-infestation of the animal.
